In the suburban area of Richland County, residents gather together to make their opinion known on the building of a new sewer system. Area homeowners feel the sewer structure would not benefit members of the community as well as future homeowners. The county has indicated the necessity of the improvement project due to faulty septic tanks and environmental issues that have arisen. There have been several facilities that have been undermined and not running adequately, that need to be brought up to code, according to the City.
Despite the resistance from many members of the community, there are guidelines that will be followed to determine the need to connect to the sewer system, if at all. For instance, the property must be located within 200 ft. of the sewer, and whether or not the existing septic system is inoperable. The County is expecting the project to be completed by 2017, as it was postponed to ensure the communities concerns were addressed.
